About the client

With 40 years of history and experience, Master presents itself today as a reliable partner for electrical installers, guaranteeing the availability of safe and efficient products within days, with innovative solutions and customer-focused after-sales support.
Thanks to meetings with designers, architects, and contractors around the world, Master is now able to apply its know-how to ad hoc projects where flexibility, speed, and certainty of the final result are required.

The context

Master already had a UNAMobile application, but it was an app generated with Qt, a tool for cross-platform mobile application development. They therefore asked us to create a native Android and iOS application, written with the latest versions of - respectively - Kotlin and Swift, that would replicate and improve some of the existing functionalities.

On this occasion, the client decided to carry out a restyling of the app's interface and add some new features to improve the user experience. The goal was to have a single app to manage the UNA home automation system that includes lights, climate, shutters, security, and personalized scenarios.

The client turned to us, leveraging our proven experience in the Internet of Things (IoT) landscape. Our team boasts solid expertise in developing connected solutions, having already completed complex projects that integrate smart devices, cloud platforms, and mobile applications for remote management and automation. This deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities of the IoT world allowed us to fully understand Master's needs and propose a tailored solution that fully exploited the potential of a native application for their UNA home automation system.

Development process

Starting from a detailed UX analysis provided by the client, we integrated further research on usability and the most effective interaction patterns for home automation systems, in order to optimize the navigation flow and app usability.

Based on this analysis, we structured an intuitive information architecture, organizing functionalities by logical areas (lighting, climate, security, etc.) and ensuring easy access to settings and personalized scenarios.

Once the wireframe boards were approved, we proceeded with the interface restyling, following Master's brand guidelines and aiming for a modern, clean, and user-focused design, with a renewed color palette, a readable font, and a set of clear icons representative of the different functions

Regarding development, the choice of a native Android (Kotlin) and iOS (Swift) architecture proved strategic in ensuring high performance, optimal integration with device functionalities, and efficient management of the complex communication protocol underlying the UNA home automation system. In particular, interaction with the IoT protocol required a deep understanding of the low-level communication mechanisms of operating systems, allowing us to optimize the application's responsiveness and reliability.

The output

UNAMobile is the application that allows you to use the UNA home automation system. Through your smartphone or tablet, you can turn lights on and off, adjust the temperature, raise and lower your home's shutters, simply and quickly. If your smartphone is connected to your home's Wi-Fi network, the app will automatically connect to SideraHome, the user interface for controlling the system from inside the home. If, instead, you are at the office or away from home, the app will automatically connect to SideraWeb, the website that allows you to control the system remotely.

The use of the application and all control functionalities is subject to the presence of a UNA Automation system by Master Divisione Elettrica, with a Vesta card and connection to local Wi-Fi network and/or Internet

  • Modern interface: The new UNA Mobile graphics have been redesigned to offer an even clearer and more pleasant user experience, making smart home management intuitive and enjoyable.
  • Push notifications: Receive continuous updates on your system's status. The app sends you immediate notifications about activations, alarms, or important communications, guaranteeing you full control and maximum peace of mind even when you're away from home.
  • Faster home automation hub search: The connection to the home automation hub is now even faster and more stable, allowing you to access controls instantly, even remotely.
  • Smart network management: UNA Mobile automatically detects network changes (Wi-Fi or mobile data) and guides you through reconnection, ensuring a continuous and uninterrupted experience in managing your smart home.
  • Simplified configuration: Static IP support for your home automation hub, for even faster detection and simplified network configuration.
